What causes stray voltage?
Electrical systems, including farm systems and distribution systems, must be grounded to the earth by code to ensure continuous safety and reliability. Some current flows through the earth at each point where the electrical system is grounded and a small voltage develops. Since high-voltage transmission systems do not rely on the earth as a return path for current, the resulting stray voltage is negligible.
