what causes rosacea and how can it be avoided?
Based on medical research, rosacea is a condition that involves both the blood vessels and the skin. However, the causes of rosacea are in fact still unknown. Lifestyle factors known to be associated with rosacea – such as alcohol consumption, sun exposure and caffeine – do not cause the disease but may activate an outbreak of it. Among the most common food triggers are cheese, vanilla, chocolate, alcohol, spicy foods and hot beverages. And while alcohol and hot drinks can be easily avoided, others are not so easy to avoid – such as sunlight, cold winds, certain drugs such as steroids, emotions such as stress or embarrassment, menopausal symptoms, coughing, even exercise. Still, avoiding as many of these common triggering factors as possible can help to limit the unpleasant symptoms.
