What causes pulmonary stenosis and who can get it?
Pulmonary stenosis affects babies and young children. It is caused when the pulmonary valve doesn’t develop properly when a baby is still growing in the womb. In most cases doctors don’t know what causes this to happen. Some heart defects are thought to be caused by faulty genes that are passed down from parents to their baby. They can also be linked to a mother’s health during pregnancy. Infections, such as German measles, are thought to cause congenital heart defects.
