What Causes Pimples, Blackheads, and Whiteheads?
Many teenagers ask their parents what is the cause of acne? There are several causes of acne which will be discussed. Ugly pimples and blemishes can be a source of despair and isolation that can lead to anguish and depression. Acne and unsightly pimples can affect up to 90% of the population at some time during their lives. When dead cells of the skin mix with extra sebum (the oily secretion of the sebaceous gland), they can plug the opening of the hair follicles and trap bacteria, forming pimples. Pimples usually show up during adolescence and affect approximately 20 million teenagers in the United States. In addition, there is a large population of adults with skin blemishes. The infamous’ blackhead, which is medically known as an open comedo, can be either a yellowish or blackish bump on a person’s skin.
