What causes people in south africa to get AIDS as opposed to the US for example?
In the US AIDS is often linked to homosexuals or addicts. In South Africa it is primarily hetrosexuals and is caused by a very promiscuous lifestyle and lack of belief in condoms. There are a number of views as to why they should not be used, some high profile public figures have said they dont believe in AIDS for example. Also many still believe in and use traditional medicines. Condoms are widely available as is education. A poorer community and lower standard of living makes people more succeptable. Medicines are harder to come by and relatively expensive. There is probably less moral restriction on continuing to have relationships when you are infected than in the west and the diagnosis occurs later on and so the infection spreads.
