What Causes Mucus / Slime Bowel Movements?
According to many practitioners, bacterial overgrowth, food allergies and sensitivities can be the cause of mucus in bowel movements. However, slimy stool can also be a sign of something serious, such as IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). It could also indicate inflammation of the intestines; or possibly Crohn’s disease. A bacterial infection, anal fissure, or a bowel obstruction may also cause the passage of mucus.
