What causes most wildfires on the Coronado National Forests?
The greatest danger of wildfire on the Coronado National Forests during May, June and early July will be from people’s inattention to fire safety. Our experience shows that in the past twenty years 48% of fires are people caused and 52% are lightning caused. Virtually all lightning fires occur during the summer monsoon season, which is usually July and August. During the other months, nearly all fires are caused by people.
