What Causes Migraines During Pregnancy?
It is believed that the increased levels of hormones are to blame. Migraine headaches are very different from tension or cluster headaches. A migraine typically occurs as a result of blood vessels in the brain dilating to very uncomfortable levels. Some women will experience their first migraine while pregnant. A migraine is characterized by a dull ache that will eventually worsen to a strong, pulsating pain. It is usually on one side of the head or in the temples. Migraines are sometimes accompanied by vomiting, nausea, and some people will experience an aura. An aura is the sensation of lights or spots in the eyes. Blind spots or other vision problems may be experienced by some women. Others report a sensitivity to noise, lights and smells.
