What Causes Migraine Headaches & Natural Treatments?
Migraines are one of the most common ailments of the nervous system. It causes recurrent headaches and sometimes other neurological symptoms, such as numbness, tingling or weakness on one side of the body. The first sign of a migraine may be an “aura,” or a premonition that an attack is imminent. There may be visual disturbance, such as bright spots or zigzag lines before both eyes. An aura is caused by temporary narrowing of the blood vessels supplying part of the brain. Minutes later, when the blood vessels, which had been tightly constricted, suddenly open up to allow a gush of blood to the brain, a severe, one sided, throbbing headache follows, often with an aversion to light, and vomiting. Symptoms may last from a few hours to several days. However, not all migraines follow the same pattern and in some cases only the headache occurs.
