What causes Marfan syndrome and who can get it?
Marfan syndrome is a genetic disorder, which means it can be passed on to a child from their mum or dad. When a parent has Marfan syndrome each child they have has a 50 per cent chance of inheriting it, with boys and girls affected equally. Marfan syndrome can also develop as a result of a spontaneous genetic change. This means that occasionally a child might develop it without any family history of the condition.
