What Causes Liver Cysts in Humans?
Liver cysts are fluid-filled, encased growths within the liver tissue. Approximately 5 percent of the population has liver cysts, according to the Cleveland Clinic. In most patients, liver cysts cause no symptoms. Genetic disorders, infections and spontaneous growth can give rise to liver cysts. Most patients do not require treatment for a liver cyst. Surgical removal may prove necessary for patients experiencing associated symptoms.
