What causes klebsiella pneumoniae?
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a gram-negative rod-shaped bacteria. It can cause pneumonia, urinary tract infection and sepsis. In the human, it can reside in the upper respiratory tract and the gastrointestinal tract. It can be transmitted by inhalation of respiratory droplets or aspiration from the upper respiratory tract to the lungs. For urinary tract infection, it usually spreads from ascending spread of fecal flora. (Therefore, females are more like to have this urinary tract infection as their urinary tract is shorter and nearer to the fecal exit.
