What causes “Invalid character(s) entered in product code string” error message?

The release code is a hexadecimal number and comprises of certain characters and integers. This range from 0-9 and A-F. If the string contains any other characters other than these the code will not work. Common errors include typing the letter “o” instead of Zero and the letter “I” instead on the number one.
