Usually, the printer has timed out and gone off-line. Two files are sent with each print request. Occasionally, one is sent and received and then the printer needs a new ribbon or paper.This interrupts the job and the first file is lost. After the ribbon or paper problem is fixed, the second spool file is transmitted and stored. The /var partition gets 80% or more full, and the printer waits for what it believes to be the “second” file. Eventually the printer “times out” going off-line and leaving incomplete spool files.
