Hydrocephalus is the accumulation of excessive amount of cerebrospinal fluid within the cavities of the brain. Common causes include lesions, either congenital (hereditary), traumatic, or neoplastic, and certain infections such as meningoencephalitis. Decreased absorption of cerebrospinal fluid can also cause hydrocephalus.
