What causes herpes simplex?
Herpes is a sexually transmitted disease, caused by the Herpes simplex virus (HSV). There are two forms of the Herpes simplex virus. Herpes simplex 1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex 2 (HSV-2). Both viruses are transmitted through skin to skin contact with a herpes sore, such as through kissing, oral sex, anal sex or intercourse.
