What causes hearing loss?
Hearing loss can come from an inherited condition, physical changes within the ear due to aging, exposure to loud noises, an injury or infection that damaged part of the ear, or exposure to toxic medicines. The majority of hearing losses are caused by ageing. Other possible causes are; prolonged exposure to noise, heredity, certain illnesses and medications. The most common form of hearing loss is called ‘nerve deafness’. This comes about when the cochlea (inner ear) and auditory nerves cannot properly transmit their signals to the brain.
