What Causes Hard Water Deposits?
Hard water is water that has a high mineral concentration in it. Depending on where you live and the type of water you have (well or city), you may have hard or soft water. If you have a water softener in your house, you likely have hard water. When you have a device that uses tap water and you have hard water, when the water evaporates, it leaves behind the minerals that were in the water. In many cases, it’s calcium or lime deposits that are left behind. Calcium and lime deposits are white, rocky substances that are extremely difficult to clean using “traditional” cleaning methods. Luckily there are a few options to clean calcium deposits. One way to avoid calcium deposits is to make sure your water softener is calibrated properly for your tap water. Also, using distilled water in humidifiers and other small evaporative devices can prolong the life of these devices.
