What causes global wind patterns?
The whole thing is drive by the sun. Sun warms the equator and forms low pressure and that air moves away from low pressure and cools and sinks back down to form a high pressure. That circulation is called the Hadley Cell. Winds move from high pressure northward and create what are called Westerly winds and high pressure cause wind to move southward too and form easterly winds and they are commonly called Trade Winds. As the winds move northward from the high pressure is collides with a polar front to the north and air rises and creates low pressure and a second circulation has formed and sometimes its called the Farrell Cell. As the low pressure send winds northward it sinks down and forms high pressure right at the North Pole called the Polar High. And winds from hig hpressure move south and completes a third cycle called the Polar cell. The entire circulation is called the Atmospheric Circulation.
