What causes cradle cap?
It is inflammation of the oil-producing glands in the scalp that leads to cradle-cap, though the reason this happens is not completely clear. The most likely explanation seems to be that hormones released by the mother during the final stages of pregnancy affect the unborn baby and cause excessive stimulation of the oil-producing glands. It is also possible that fungal overgrowth on the scalp contributes to the development of cradle-cap.
