What causes concrete to crack or move?
Shifting or cracked concrete can be caused by poor drainage, freezing temperatures, burrowing rodents and the rate in which soil compacts. When soil under concrete compacts it can cause a hollow area and pressure points develop. Eventually the weight of the concrete and traffic causes the slab to shift and/or crack. Once this happens, water enters and erodes the soil, making this void larger.
