from what i understand, in your eye there a colour receptors and just grey scale receptors (a bit like printer ink, colour, and black ink) in normal circumstances both colour and black are used by your eyes, however in exceptional circumstances (under hard force, shock, high adrenaline situations or low blood pressure) the colour receptors arent used. i cant remember why not, i think it’s something to do with them needing more brainpower to organise them or more impulses through your retina and nerves (i.e. takes more effort so stick to black and white vision) it happens to me when under a lot of g-forces and happens to military pilots under high g manouvres. for example people know thye black out if under high g-forces but just before theres a “grey out” period where colour goes and they only really see in greayyscale. hope htis is helpfull, like i say, don’t quote me on any of this, its only what i’ve learned from biologygcse years ago and from a doctor brother.
