What causes cervical arthritis?
Hello! The most common cause of cervical arthritis is injury or repeated trauma to the neck or back. Sometimes an old basketball injury experienced years before may be the reason for cervical arthritis. It is noticed that signs of the disease begin early but the symptoms show up after many years. Also it is noticed that a minor injury to the spine may provoke the symptoms when cervical vertebrae and their discs begin to degenerate. Also, other types of arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis predispose some people to cervical arthritis. Sometimes it is difficult to diagnose because the named diseases are very similar.
