What causes black or very dark stools?

0

Sometimes it is caused by some type of internal bleeding (blood turns dark red/black when it gets old). Usually something like intestinal bleeding or stomach bleeding. If it is like this regularly, you should go in to the doctor for a checkup. Also, various foods (I can’t list them…they are hard to really determine and it varies with each person) can cause the stool to be dark or black sometimes. I would imagine that foods like something really strong and ‘dye-like’ such as…red cabbage, could cause a dark looking stool due to the dye effect that it has. I take Vitamin B12 complex supplements every 2 or 3 days…and it makes me urinate almost a ‘neon green’ color as if I am radioactive or something. lol It’s just the dye effect from the pill itself – it is an odd color and causes that greenish color when processed and expelled by the body.
