WHAT CAUSES BASHFULNESS?
From what does this bashfulness spring? From an inherent modesty that makes them shrink from contact with those whose manners are more polished than their own? We have always been of that opinion, but we see it affirmed that shyness is but another form of egotism; and the writer who makes this assertion, explains by saying that it is the egotism which leads one to think constantly of self, even though in a disparaging fashion.
