What causes back or neck pain?
Back pain is very painful and often frustrating, especially if the pain is causing loss of mobility. The good news is most episodes of back pain resolve themselves within a few weeks. There are several obvious causes of back pain such as pregnancy or excess weight where excess strain is being put on the spine as well as some less obvious causes of back pain which include: Lumbar Muscle Strain – Most common cause for low back pain. Many times muscle strains resolve themselves in a few weeks. Herniated/Ruptured/Slipped Disc – Injury that happens when the inner softer part of a disk (nucleus pulposus) breaks through the outer tougher part (annulus fibrosis) and pushes against a nerve causing back pain. Happens most commonly in the lowest two disks. Discogenic Back Pain – Results in damage to the intervertebral disk, but does not involve a disk herniation.
