What causes air pollution in SEQ?
The answer is: everyone living and working in the region. Natural events, such as bushfires also contribute. But the main source of air pollution is the motor vehicle. Vehicle exhaust emissions are the major human-produced air pollution in South-east Queensland; up to 72% of all pollutants. Lead is also released to the air from vehicles using leaded petrol (Super), although this is decreasing as more cars use unleaded petrol. Industry releases 90% of human-produced sulfur dioxide and 65% of fine particles to SEQ’s air.
