What Causes a Group B Strep Infection?
The intestines and genital tract are often inhabited by a bacterium known as Group B Streptococcus. Generally, Group B strep is not dangerous to adults; however, it can result in serious infections in some individuals. Such infections can usually be effectively treated with antibiotics. There are no direct causes of Group B strep; however, individuals with certain conditions, newborns and elderly people are more susceptible to developing this infection.
