What caused the space race?
The space race was essentially the race to get into space, get people into space, and to colonize space and other objects in space. The USSR took the first step with the first craft and cosmonaut, and the US took the steps on the moon (the only) and the first commercially funded space human. Russia has a space station that we dock with often, and other nations are coming into the space age with us. Unfortunately, the space race is slowing down dramatically, now that there is no frenzied public wishing to show our “superiority” over Communism, the government has less and less drive to continue funding space missions. Now, space voyages are only to keep astronauts prepped and conduct scientific studies (plus the occasional sattelite launch or repair), although these were afterthoughts of the original spce race.
