What Caused The Pilots Strike At Jet Airways?
The Management of Jet Airways had fired a few employees last month for forming a “union”. The management did not approve of this and sacked the leaders of the union last month. This started a protest among the pilots who decided to go on ’sick leave’ indefinitely. The management would not give in to their demands and in fact went ahead and fired 5 more pilots yesterday (September 8, 2009). As many as 186 flights were canceled since the “simulated strike” started. Luckily Jet Airways’ foreign pilots did not participate in the strike and hence a few flight schedules were not disrupted. Flights to the Gulf countries from Mumbai and Delhi were majorly affected due to the sick-out by majority of the pilots.
