What caused the degradation of the park ecosystem?
Recreational use of the park has increased significantly in recent years with the growing population in the Capital Regional District. More visitors bringing new types of recreational activities has resulted in the degradation of the park ecosystem. • Intensity of use: particularly in the summer, when the park sees a substantial increase in visitors, the natural habitat has no ‘down time’ during which to recover on their own • Types of use: visitor use has shifted from predominantly passive recreational experiences (e.g. wildlife viewing, nature appreciation) to demands for more active recreational experiences (e.g.
