What Caused Fumes at MGM Grand Las Vegas Pool?
Twenty-six people who were exposed to the fumes, which smelled similar to bleach, went to the hospital with breathing problems according to MSNBC. The sodium hypochlorite valve malfunctioned which allowed the chemical to go into the pool’s lazy river. About 100 people experienced breathing trouble, but they did not need to go to the hospital. Chemicals are dangerous, but thankfully everybody who went to the hospital is likely to be okay. Even though the lazy river was the issue, all of the MGM Grand Las Vegas pools were evacuated. Some guests, who were in the area at the time of the fumes, reported that they did not smell them. Guests were allowed back into the pool area to retrieve their belongings within about three hours. The pool was expected to reopen sometime later on Friday. This does not sound like a relaxing way to spend a vacation. Thankfully the pool was evacuated quickly and everybody will end up being okay.
