What categories of Geocoins are there?
Geocoins can be broken down into four main categories: Personal, Regional/Organizational, Event and Miscellaneous. The first Geocoins were the Personal coins that were produced by individuals and teams. Regional coins came next with the Canadian and USA coins. States, counties, cities and other geographically determined locations also have coins, with or without a organization behind the creation of the coin. Event coins are just what they imply, a coin minted to commemorate a Geocaching event. The Miscellaneous category has two distinct subcategories; Geocaching related and non-Geocaching related. Many coins in this category fall into the Geocaching related. While some are obvious, this can be highly speculative, and in the end, it is up to the collector to decide if they want to include the coin in their collection.
