What careers require higher-level mathematics? Which mathematics is required?
Medicine: Students who want to go to medical school should be encouraged to take the Calculus sequence of courses through MAT 302. Science and Engineering: Students who plan to transfer to a 4-year college and major in science or engineering should be encouraged to take the Calculus sequence of courses. Computer Science: Students who plan to transfer to a 4-year college and major in computer science should be encouraged to take Discrete Mathematics (MAT 200). Social Sciences: Students who plan to transfer to a 4-year college and major in a social science should be encouraged to take Statistics. If they are strong in mathematics, they should take MAT 209; however, if they are less confident in their mathematics skills, they may also be encouraged to take MAT 150, Introduction to Statistics. Business: Students who are interested in pursuing careers in business should be encouraged to take Statistics (MAT 209) and/or Precalculus (MAT 206) and possibly Calculus, depending upon their future
