Called “disappearing cannon” after firing, recoil would cause them to drop down and out of sight so the enemy couldn’t locate them and return fire. The one at Camp Casey was retrieved from oblivion in the Phillippine Islands and replaced on it’s mount overlooking Admiralty Inlet.
