Nothing really. It will thicken as it ages. If you plant a single stem crab, as opposed to a multi-stem crab, the trunk will thicken much quicker because it only has one main leader to support. This doesn’t mean cut the other leaders because then it will look lop-sided and ugly, but the trunk would probably grow faster.
