What can the police and police community support officers (PCSOs) do?
Following this legislation, if such a vehicle is being used against the law, irresponsibly or anti-socially, police officers and PCSOs have the right to seize the vehicle with the possibility of the vehicle being crushed, and/or issue a fixed penalty notice for disorder. Riders using vehicles illegally on public roads and footpaths can also be prosecuted under road traffic law, fined and given points on their driving license. Parents are advised to keep this legislation in mind when buying a bike for your child; Parents and owners themselves may be liable for offences if they permit anyone, including children, to use vehicles illegally.
