What can schools do to help students succeed at math?
I can think of a couple of solutions that schools could implement to help students with math. Most of them are fairly common-sense.
One solution is to keep close track of how many students are failing in each class and have a general idea of why that is. Students who have personal issues will often start failing in math first, since that’s a topic most find difficult. And if an entire class suddenly has a drop in performance, a student or teacher may be having a negative impact on the class.
On top of that, it’s important to offer a path for struggling students who are willing to put in the work. Offering extra classes and online resources to those students can make a huge difference in their rate of success. Finally, schools that really want to nail this problem can try to implement more individualized learning solutions. The services provided by companies like Teach to One are often both innovative and effective at helping students succeed.
