What can politicians do to make young women feel empowered?
Zita: I believe that a strong inter-generation solidarity can reinforce women in politics; we need a constant dialogue between older generations of women who should listen to the expectations of young women in politics and vice-versa. But my task is also to explain to young women that gender equality as it stands today is not a given. They should not take it for granted, unfortunately. I am pleased that ECOSY takes gender equality seriously; a gender balanced presidium and a strong feminist network. As for general terms, I think that young women should be given a greater chance without always questioning their competences. I think we have enough competent and motivated women and this should not longer be questioned (something that does not happen with young men). The younger generation has already done this by giving the post of general secretary to Ania Skrzypek and possibly having women president and secretary general candidates for the next mandate.
