What can I use in my hamster cage to make a replica of his natural habitat?
It’s ok to give your hammie a sand box, but these animals are so domesticated now that they really don’t need a “natural” environment. I am assuming that we’re talking about a syrian hamster here, but disregard if this is about a dwarf ham. The safest, most absorbent bedding that is also affordable is “Yesterday’s News” UNSCENTED cat litter. They sell it as small animal litter, but it’s the same thing in a different bag and it costs more per lbs. Also, be sure that anything you put in the cage is hamster-safe pet stuff and easy to clean. You never know where they’ll make a toilet!!! My hamster loves, loves, loves to climb. Wooden bird ladders are great for this. Also, never forget the wheel. They must have one. Another consideration is space to run about. Too many people overcrowd the cage with stuff, and the hamsters can become paralyzed over time!
hamsters dont really have a natural habitat they have been bread in captivity for so long a cage is all they know . so keep in mind that by nature they are scavengers and change out there cage often and hide there food they like to climb so a log of some sort will be great and better if it has a hole that it can hide in they also are night creatures so put out tows for it at night . give it different items and take notes on how it uses it and as to its recognize to the items and soon you will know how to set up the cage just for his amusement . here is a great toy for it you know the child’s ball that you put the shaped star , square ,ECT. into the slot it fits mine liked a vace i buried under the mulch i put some food in it and he dug his way to it then moved most of his things into it . try a slinky and stretching a long sock over it then stretch it out in a curve .if you change its toys out once a week you will see that it will become more active .
