POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — Organizers and participants are making their last minute preparations before a big annual boat parade next Saturday. One of the many boats expected participate in the 2009 Seminole Hard Rock Winter fest Boat Parade is the Noah’s Ark. The boat is expected to shine with over 10,000 to 12,000 lights, and throughout the boat there will be several stuffed animals and pictures of furry friends, all for a good cause. “We drew everything free-handed. By the time we do the lighting, and in the dark, everything just pops,” said Barbara Beeson. Beeson and Betsy Brock hurst of Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue said they’re sailing in the Winter fest Boat Parade for one reason: saving the animals by getting people to adopt pets. “We’re going to have our phone number up there, and we’re hoping to call and help donate or come adopt an animal,” said Brockhurst. The parade is Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. along the Intracoastal in Fort Lauderdale.

Boaters prepare for Winterfest boat parade DANIA BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — Boaters are showing off some bright ideas for this weekend’s Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade. “Last year we got first prize in the small boats for sound system. This year we want to get it again,” said Robert Rucerito. Rucerito is back for his second year at Winterfest, and this year he chose the Grease theme. “We’re going with Grease and John Travolta car on the side, lightning bolts and some loud music,” said Rucerito. Meanwhile, in Fort Lauderdale, the Nessingschlagers worked on their boat, Mr. Bob. “We just do lights, more lights and everything. I do it for the kids,” said 25-year Winterfest veteran, Peggy Nessingschlager. The Winterfest Parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12. “I’ve watched it practically all of my life, and I’m so happy to be a part of this event,” said a patron.

A floating fantasyland of holiday cheer, the Winterfest Boat Parade will weigh anchor Saturday evening on its 38th annual trek down the New River and up the Intracoastal Waterway to Lake Santa Barbara, with thousands of spectators lining its 12-mile route. Some of the best spots to watch the Winterfest Boat Parade are on the water. If you’re unable to snag a seat on a friend’s boat or yacht, grab a seat along the New River or at Birch State Park — home of Winterfest’s official grandstand.
