Student Counselling offers students the chance to talk things over in confidence with an understanding and objective outsider. Counselling is a process of talking and listening which may help to resolve problems. The Counsellor will attempt to understand your concerns, and may assist you to see the overall picture, offer new perspectives or alternative ways of thinking about your concerns, help you to explore and practise different ways of behaving, and/or provide information. Counsellors are available to assist you in the areas of academic success, personal concerns and career planning. A counselling session is usually 30 to 50 minutes depending on the nature of the concern. The number of sessions will vary but the majority of students are seen for between one and three sessions. If your concern will require extensive counselling a counsellor will refer you to an appropriate agency or therapist.
