What can i do to stop my 16 month chocolate lab from doing this?

I have a ten month old black lab. We crate trained him at a few months old. Before we had the crate he would destroy if left alone they are notorious for that ive heard of them chewing through walls and i wasnt takin that chance. My dog loves his crate its his own space.
