What can i do to rid the fleas of my cat and dog?
With an advanced flea problem like what you are describing, you need to be prepared to put a little money into getting rid of the fleas. It will end up cheaper in the long run if you spend a little more up front and actually solve the problem and follow up with flea prevention than trying all sorts of cheaper things with no results.
Go to the vet (you don’t need to take your pets) and buy 2 Capstar pills appropriate to each animal’s weight and a flea treatment like Advantage, Frontline or Comfortis. Also, buy flea killing bombs that kill eggs and seven dust at your local supercenter.
Dust wherever your animals go outside with the seven dust. It’s cheap and safe for both cats and dogs. Then, go inside and give your pets the Capstar pills. Although you can buy Capstar at Petco or other pet supply stores, this is one thing that tends to be cheaper from the vet. My vet only charges $5 a pill, and it kills all of the fleas currently on your pets within 10 minutes. While the Capstar in going into effect, take your animals out in the yard or outside in carriers that have been dusted with seven dust.
Now, you have to treat the inside. You and your family will need to be prepared to leave the house for a while. Close all the windows, and set the flea bombs off in every room of the house. Get out and find something to do for a few hours. Before you actually drive away, this is a good time to apply the flea treatment to your animals, especially if they have to go in the car with you.
When you return home and air out your house, your home and pets will be flea-free. Continue to give your pets a monthly flea treatment to prevent having to repeat this process in the future.
