What can I do to control the white scale on my mugo pines?
Do nothing at this time. On a day in February, when the temperature is expected to remain above 35-40F, treat your pines with a dormant oil spray. If this doesn’t control the scale to your satisfaction, spray your trees with an insecticide such as malathiononce about May 1, and again on June 1 to kill any newly hatched crawlers. Be sure to follow manufacturer’s directions when applying these materials.
