What can I do if I am being cyberstalked or harassed on-line?
The Canadian Criminal Code defines stalking or criminal harassment as unwanted, repeated communication or contact. The law applies to Internet contact as well as to more traditional stalking. Cyberstalking is characterized by the stalker pursuing the victim on-line and can include sending threats and harassing messages to the victim through e-mail, chat rooms, and message boards. Variations of stalking include the use of spy-ware to track Web site visits and sending viruses to the victim’s computer. Although cyberstalking is through electronic mail, one out of five cases can result in real-world stalking.
