What can I do for my husband (wife) when he (she) has an Atrial Fibrillation episode?
If your husband/wife is in great discomfort and his/her heart is beating very rapidly and irregularly, you can call 911 or get him/her to an Emergency Room where the staff can use a defibrillator and medications to electrically shock him/her back into normal sinus rhythm, or convert him/her back to sinus rhythm using drugs. But, unlike a heart attack, most episodes of A-Fib are usually not life threatening. See Overview. 9.
