What can Hope Springs Internal readers do to help promote positive images of women in Hollywood?
I recently came across actress and playwright Tara Handron’s “Drunk with Hope in Chicago,” a play about alcoholism in women. On Tara’s site, she writes: “Let’s face it, everyone knows one — an alcoholic. Alcoholism has no cure. It is destructive and fatal. Though you won’t see running races or people brandishing bracelets for awareness. Many people can’t talk about it, can’t acknowledge it, or won’t acknowledge it. Alcoholism knows no bounds. Race, gender, religion, genetic make-up, or socio-economic status cannot determine in a definitive and conclusive way why a person is alcoholic. Even today, ignorance and confusion still surround this illness and its forms of recovery and rehabilitation, and sometimes even more so in the case of female alcoholics.
