What can happen to varicose or spider veins if left untreated?
Inflammation of the vein (phlebitis), blood clots (thrombosis), spontaneous bleeding, and skin ulcers are complications of advanced varicose vein disease. If varicose veins are left untreated, they may increase in number and be associated with worsening symptoms such as swelling and pain. Spider veins, on the other hand, are frequently unsightly, but are not likely to cause significant problems.
