What can happen if I do not obtain a Maryland Non-Resident Permit or a Maryland Registration and license plates within 60-days of moving into Maryland?
If you are going to be staying in Maryland for more than 60 calendar days and do not obtain either the Maryland Non-Resident permit (if eligible) or a Maryland registration and license plates before the end of those 60 days, you may receive a citation for being in violation of the Maryland Motor Vehicles Registration Laws. The maximum fine for this violation is $280. In the City of College Park, the Parking Enforcement Division officers randomly track out-of-state vehicles for 60 days. If, after 60 days have passed, the vehicle is found without a Non-Resident Permit or Maryland license plates, the Parking Enforcement Officer will issue a citation for $55.00 every three days until the vehicle either leaves the jurisdiction, displays a Maryland Non-Resident Permit, or displays valid Maryland License plates.
